The Ho West District Assembly on Friday 13th January, 2023 has presented items and an amount of cash to twenty-seven (27) Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as a means to improve their livelihoods.
The items presented included Polytank, Plastic Chairs, Cassava Grinding Machines, Fufu Pounding Machines and Deep Freezers. Others were given educational and medical support
Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive of Ho West, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau said, the three percent share of the Assembly’s Common Fund is used to support PWDs in the district to undertake economic ventures that will help them become self-reliant and also to incorporate them into mainstream society.
He stated that been disable does not mean the person is less important and therefore encouraged them not to let their challenges deter them from prospering in life. He also urged all to take preventive steps to protect their health.
The DCE disclosed that the Assembly has supported 424 PWDs in the District since 2018 to 2022 to help them become independent. He advised the beneficiaries to put the items into good use as it is a onetime benefit.
The Presiding Member (PM) of Ho West who is also the Assembly Member for Biakpa Electoral Area, Hon. Rita Semanu Eglegbe encouraged the caregivers to use the items to generate income to take care of their carers.
The Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Rolland Kumfu encouraged Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) who have not registered with the Department should do so. He further indicated that the department has an office number 0596601404, which individuals can call for any assistance.
Mr. Kumfu cautioned beneficiaries not to sell the items presented to them or keep them ideal, but to use it for it intended purpose to generate income for themselves. He added that monitoring team will visit their localities to ascertain their progress.
