HO WEST DCE ENGAGES BENEFICIARY COMMUNITIES ON THE WATER SUPPLY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (WSIP) OF THE GHANA/SPAIN DEBT SWAP FOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (DSDP)

The Ho West District Chief Executive accompanied by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWAS), staff of the District Assembly and Contractor on Wednesday 1st February, 2023 inspected six projects under the Water Supply Improvement Project (WSIP) of the Ghana/Spain Debt SWAP for Development Programme (DSDP) to access the progress of work of the projects in the district. The projects were construction of fully mechanized water supply systems for Anyirawase, Kpale Xorse, Saviefe Agorkpo and limited mechanized water supply systems for Saviefe Gborgame and Saviefe Deme.

The inspection team from CWSA were Mr. Obed Ameade, Water Quality Officer; Mr. Benjamin Yeboah, Hydrologist Mr. Felix Dogbe, TRAGSA Rep; Mr. Francis Tsyawo, Engineer and Mrs Shallom Lunor, Extension Officer.

The District Assembly team were also made of the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, Mr. Emmanuel Dogbevia, Water Engineer, Mr. Ebenezer Nkrumah, District Planning Officer; Mr. Daniel Kumah, District Environmental Health and Sanitation Officer and Miss Emma Sekyere, District Information Officer. The Contractor of the projects Messers Win-Meg Ventures Limited, Mr. Godwin Lumorvi and his team were also present.

After the inspection of the projects a site meeting was held at Anyriwase and Saviefe Gborgame to discuss the progress made so far. The contractor of the projects Messrs Win-Meg Ventures Limited, briefed members of works that are completed, ongoing and challenges encountered.

The contractor stated that the projects were supposed to be completed in six months however, due to some challenges the projects will be completed in March, 2023. He said, the overall percentage of the projects is 58.63% and assured the beneficiary communities and Reps of other Institutions present of completing works as soon as possible.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau though expressed his displeasure about the speed of work of the projects, he said the projects when completed will improve access to potable drinking water in the respective communities. He encouraged residents to always acquire building permits before construction to avoid haphazard buildings structures in the communities. He also called on the Contractor to expedite action on the projects.

A wide range of questions that centered on speed of work, extension of water to new sites, risk management were asked   and answered by CWSA and Contractor. A member of Saviefe Gborgame urged the District Assembly to remove all structures on water ways.

 Also at the meeting were Hon. Christian Agbeyali, Assembly Member for Anyirawase Electoral Area; Hon. Unity Doh, Assembly Member for Kpale Etordome Electoral Area; Hon. Maxwell Borfeli, Assembly Member for Saviefe Electoral Area, Chiefs and Elders of the beneficiaries’ communities and town development committees’ chairpersons and secretaries.
