HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY SENSITIZES BENEFICIARY COMMUNITY ON GHANA PRODUCTIVE SAFETY NET PROJECT 2 (GPSNP 2) AND OTHER DEVELOPMENT ISSUES

The Ho West District Assembly on Wednesday 22nd March 2023 organized sensitization exercise for Kpedze Todze, a beneficiary community of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP 2). The objective of the exercise was to enable the community understand the purpose of the project and why they should embrace it.

Addressing community members, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Wisdom Kporngor indicated that the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP 2) is a World Bank and Government of Ghana Project under the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD) in collaboration with beneficiary MMDAs to contribute to alleviating extreme poverty and boost the productivity and income of the poor. He said the community will benefit from 1.80km opening of farm road using labour intensive approaches. He added that the project will help the community connect to and from their farm lands and other remote areas with ease when completed.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Seth Rashid Asuo further explained that, the Labour-Intensive Public Works (LIPW) component of GPSNP 2 is directed to offer jobs and income earning opportunities to rural poor households through rehabilitation and maintenance of communities needed infrastructure which include feeder roads, Small Earth Dams and/or Climate change mitigation. He added that individuals (one per household) between the age of 18-65 will be self-selected into the program and at least 60 percent of the participants are expected to be women.

On development needs of the community, repair of damaged water pump, support for self-help project for the construction of Headmasters bungalow and supply of street lights to improve security and reduce theft cases in the community were mentioned.

In response to the development needs, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau said the Assembly will distribute more street lights to electoral areas to boost visibility in communities as well as distribute electric poles to new developing areas. On increase theft cases in the area, he urged the community to form Watch Dog Committees. He also donated water pump to the community to address the water challenge they face.

There was an open forum session where questions and concerns were raised by participants with responses given by the team to collaboratively address them.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the education and look forward for immediate response.
