DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TRAINS WOMEN AND YOUTH IN AGRICULTURE ON FOOD DEMONSTRATION

The Ho West District Assembly through the Department of Agriculture has organized a one day training for women and youth in Agriculture on Wednesday 3rd May, 2023.

The training which is a component of the Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Programme (GASSIP), seeks to empower women and youth in agro-based processing, branding/packaging and marketing.

The Officer in charge of Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) Unit of the Agric Department, Miss Gloria Fafa Kporvie adviced and encouraged the participants to appreciate and practice what they have learnt since it a business they can venture into to generate income to improve their livelihoods.

Mr. Lord Listowell, the Officer in charge of Business and Enterprise Development under GASSIP disclosed that the programme comprises other components which include but not limited to packaging/branding, Business Registration Assistance, Nutrition Education and Radio Programme on Women and Youth Empowerment.

He further indicated that the next phase of the training will be on branding/packaging and therefore appealed to the participants to take advantage when the date of the second phase of the training is communicated to them.

The District Planning Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Nkrumah, applauded the team for pushing government’s agenda of improving Local Economic Development (LED) under the programme especially amongst women and youth in the District.

Mr. Nkrumah urged the organisers to collaborate with other Departments/Units/Agencies to assist with expertise in the various components that the programme seeks to render.

The training saw the attendance of officers of the Department of Agriculture, Other Heads of Departments/Units and participants from Akome and Dzolokpuita enclaves.
