HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY COMMEMORATE GREEN GHANA DAY

A short ceremony was held on Friday 9th June 2023 at the forecourt of Akovife Primary School to mark the Green Ghana Day. The commemoration is part of government’s continuos efforts to preserve and protect the country’s forest cover and to improve Climate Change.

The event was attended by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Wisdom Kporngor, the Paramount Chief of Akorvife Traditional Area, Togbega Adza Osei IV, Heads of Departments, Staff of the Assembly, teachers, pupils and residents of Akorvife.

Under the theme “Our Forest, Our Health,” this year’s commemoration aimed to highlight the crucial link between healthy forest and the well-being of the people.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, in his address emphasized the Assembly’s consistent endeavors in tree planting activities since 2017, specifically targeting climate change mitigation within the district. Notable initiatives mentioned by Hon. Apau included tree planting to safeguard water bodies, “one household, one fruit tree” campaign, and the “one Paramountcy, One Stool Farm” project, among others.

While acknowledging the significance of planting trees, Hon. Apau stressed the equal importance of nurturing and maintaining these trees to ensure their growth. He appealed to all stakeholders to embrace government initiative, recognizing that sustained efforts are essential for achieving the desired environmental outcomes.

To promote widespread participation, the District Assembly plans to distribute over 10,000 seedlings to the public.The seedlings includes Ofram, orange, coconut, and mahogany.

The District Chief Executive, together with the District Coordinating Director, some Department Heads, pupils and some key dignitaries planted a tree. This collective engagement underscores the shared responsibility in nurturing a sustainable and green environment for the present and future generations.
