HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS IN SAND WINNING ACTIVITIES

The Ho West District Assembly has engaged stakeholders involved in sand winning activities in the Hlefi enclaves. The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss the rotation of contractors and address concerns regarding unhealthy practices observed at sand pit sites. Additionally, the assembly aimed to promote peace, security, and sustainable sand winning practices among all stakeholders involved.

The meeting which took place on Monday 12th June 2023, witnessed the presence of the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Wisdom Kporngor, the Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Hope Smith Lomotey, the Regional Director for the Mineral Commission, Mr. Isaac Menu, the Chief of Hlefi, Togbe Kwame Tsrah, the Assembly Member for Hlefi, Hon. Julius Kplem, Sand Winning Contractors, Tipper Truck Owners and Drivers, and Landowners.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau in his address emphasized the responsibility of relevant institutions in the regulation and monitoring of sand winning activities within the district. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of collective action by all stakeholders to prevent land degradation and its detrimental impact on the local community.

Togbe Kwame Tsrah, the Chief of Hlefi, chaired the meeting and commended the Assembly for engaging stakeholders to address sand-winning related issues. He acknowledged the importance of compliance with regulations and roles each stakeholder must play to bring peace to the Hlefi enclaves.

The Regional Director of Environmental Protection Agency and the Regional Director for Mineral Commission both shared their expertise on best practices, environmental regulations and sustainable sand winning activities.

The District Assembly has had series of meeting with the stakeholders and hoped that the decisions made at the meeting will contribute to the establishment of a more harmonious and regulated sand winning industry in the district, safeguarding the environment and as well as the well-being of the people.
