HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HOLDS GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

The Ho West District Assembly held its Second Ordinary Meeting of the 4th Session of the 3rd Assembly on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Assembly Hall.

In her opening address, the Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Rita Semanu Eglegbe welcomed all members to the meeting and expressed her gratitude to Hon. Assembly Members and staff for supporting the business of the Assembly. She entreated Hon. Members to help in the mobilization of internally generated funds (IGF) to cushion the Assembly to carry out its development agenda.

Presenting the sessional address and Executive Committe Report (EXECO), the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Victor Apau congratulated staff of the Ho West District Assembly and other Decentralised Departments for the outstanding performance in the Performance Contract Assessment and the National League Table. He pledged his continues support in providing the needed logistics and motivation to enable staff deliver on their core mandate.

The DCE, highlighted successes chalked in the various sectors such as Education, Health, Finance, Water and Sanitation, Road, Agriculture, Ecotourism/Climate change among others.

Touching on education, the DCE said as part of improving performance and quality education, 800 dual desks have been distributed so far through the Education Directorate to reduce the furniture deficit in basic schools.

On Environment and Sanitation, he said the Assembly collaborated with Zoomlion to evacuate dumping site at Kpedze Awlime as well as leveled the final disposal sites to manage solid waste in the district. He added that the major water source for most communities of Ho West is underground water and for that matter entreated Hon. Members to assist the Assembly to implement measures to enable families patronize public cemeteries instead of private burials to protect our underground water.

On the issue of cattle ranching, the DCE stated that the menace is leading to the influx of herdsmen all over the District which has become security concern to DISEC. He noted that management in collaboration with Ghana Police Service have moved out herdsmen disturbing the people of Bakpe in order to encourage crop farming in the area. He entreated Hon. Assembly Members to have engagement with the land owners to refrain from allocating same land given to crop farms to cattle owners to avoid any dispute.

With Ecotourism in the District, Hon. Apau informed the house that Amedzofe community is the highest human settlement in Ghana and has numerous tourists attractions such as unique weather, caves, evergreen forest covers comprising the endangered Onepone species, Ote falls, Germany Missionary Cemetery, and Mt. Gemi which is the second highest mountain in Ghana. He urged all surrounding communities of Amedzofe to maintain peace and serene environment and continues provision of enabling environment for tourists and investors.

On water supply, the DCE informed the house that the Ghana-Spain Debt Swap Project which is being managed by CWSA is ongoing and at 75% level of completion. He said the contractor is working very hard to complete the project in the following communities Anyirawase, Kpale Xorse, Saviefe Agorkpo. He added that, CWSA in collaboration with Aqua-Africa have mechanized two existing boreholes with modern filtration system for Dzolokpuita.

The Anum District of Zipline and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) also briefed and educated the house on their activities and addressed concerns raised by Hon. Assembly Members.

In Attendance were; Heads of Departments/Units, the Ghana Ambulance Service and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
