The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, joined the Ghana Education Directorate to celebrate “My First Day at School” at Akome Gbogame E. P. Basic School on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023.
This event is celebrated annually to welcome children entering Kindergarten for the first time and those starting in the mainstream school system at Basic one.
In total, 115 pupils were admitted to Kindergarten 1, including students from Akome E.P Primary, Akome Gbota E.P. Primary, and Akome Agate E.P Primary.
In his address, the District Chief Executive urged parents/guardians to recognize their roles by providing for the basic needs of their children. He emphasized that parents should be concerned about their children’s nutrition, health, and other factors contributing to their well-being.
Hon. Apau also asked the Chief and elders to continue playing a unifying role to ensure peace between teachers, school children, and the community. He encouraged the children to take their studies seriously to achieve their goals.
The Chief Inspector of Schools, Mr. Edward George Boachie, representing the District Director of Education, encouraged teachers to take good care of the pupils and create a nurturing and enriching environment to help them remain in school.
The Chairman of the event, Mr. Joseph Mawena Kumah, the Chief of Akome, Togbega Debrah III, and the Member of Parliament’s representative, reiterated the roles of teachers and pupils in achieving academic excellence in their speeches. They urged the pupils to exhibit good behavior, be respectful, and study diligently to become who they aspire to be in the future.
Items such as exercise books, sharpeners, pencils, among others, were distributed to the pupils.
