HO WEST DCE AND OFFICIALS PAY WORKING VISIT TO SAND PIT SITES

The District Chief Executive for Ho West, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau on Friday 3rd November, 2023 conducted a monitoring visit to sand pit sites at Abutia Kissifli. The purpose of the visit was to assess the ongoing sand winning operations in the community and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.

Accompanying the DCE was the District Coordinating Director, the Physical Planning Officer, District Information Officer, the Assistant Internal Auditor, the team from Environmental Protection Agency, the team from Minerals Commission, the Regional Chairman of NASSWTTU and land owners.

The team visited various sites within the Abutia Kissifli community and it was observed none of these sites had been properly reclaimed after sand winning activities, which is a critical issue for environmental conservation.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, expressed a commitment to taking decisive actions to address the issues observed during the visit. He emphasized the importance of reclamation in protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainability of sand winning operations.

He said the Assembly, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will increase enforcement efforts to curb illegal sand winning practices in the area.
