HO WEST DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE HOLDS STAKEHOLDER TRAINING ON CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE

The Ho West Department of Agriculture, as part of promoting sustainable agricultural practices and mitigating the impacts of climate change on local farming communities, held a stakeholder meeting on Climate Smart Agriculture on Monday, February 26th, 2024, at the District Assembly Hall.

The meeting underscored the critical role of collaboration and partnership among stakeholders in addressing the complex challenges posed by climate change. By bringing together representatives from government agencies, staff from the Department of Agriculture, Chiefs and Queen Mothers, Assembly Members, non-governmental organisations, and farmers, will facilitate the discussions on strategies and initiatives to identify innovative approaches, boost productivity and promote environmental sustainability in agriculture.

Mr. Nutsukpo Delali, a former Director of Agriculture, highlighted in his address the unprecedented challenges posed by climate change to agricultural productivity, emphasizing its significant threat to food security. He further pointed out the substantial contribution of emission of green House gases by human activities adversely affect crop yields and animals.

Participants were taken through the adoption of climate-smart technologies, promotion of drought-resistant crop varieties, ways of recycling waste materials, among others.
