HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY CELEBRATES 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

This year’s district celebration of the 67th Independence Day Anniversary took place at Anyirawase Methodist School Park on Wednesday, 6th March, 2024, under the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride.” The event featured a parade of six primary schools, six junior high schools, two senior high schools, and two cadet groups from Awudome Senior High School and Tsito Senior High Technical School.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Honourable District Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency, the District Coordinating Director, the District Director of Education, the Paramount Chief of Awudome Traditional Area, Honorable Assembly Members, Security Agencies, National Ambulance Service, Ghana Health Service, Teachers, staff of the Ho West District Assembly, political parties, the media, and community members.

Addressing the parade, the District Chief Executive, Honourable Ernest Victor Apau, indicated that the District has commemorated the celebration of the Independence Day Anniversary on a rotational basis. This approach, he stated, ensures that every part of the district has the opportunity to host this important national event, thereby promoting a sense of participation and unity among citizens.

Honourable Apau stated that our democracy stands as a beacon of hope, embodying the values of freedom, equality, and justice. As citizens of a nation, it is incumbent upon us to safeguard and strengthen this precious system through unity, civic responsibility, active participation, a spirit of patriotism, and steadfast commitment to attain the common goal of the nation.

The DCE also presented remarkable achievements in education under his leadership. Among these accomplishments were Ho West producing the best BECE candidates in the Volta Region in 2018 and 2023. Kpedze Senior High School wining three national awards, and Tsito Senior High Technical School honored the national best cadet corps for three consecutive times among others.

Furthermore, Hon. Apau emphasized the success of the DCE learning model, which was introduced to enhance education at the basic level. He stated that, encouraged by its positive impact, plans are underway to launch a peer learning model at the Senior High Schools, aimed at improving academic performance across the district.

The Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency, Honourable Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, in his speech, stressed that the blood that was shed for independence must never be taken for granted and therefore urged all citizens to protect the hard-won independence and democratic values that define the nation. He also entreated the students to study hard in order to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

All participating schools were awarded certificates of participation, while awards were also presented to schools that excelled in the march past.
