HO WEST DISTRICT COMMEMORATE GREEN GHANA DAY AT DZOLOKPUITA

The Ho West District Assembly joined the rest of the country on Friday 7th June, 2024 to commemorate the Green Ghana Day at Dzolokpuita. This years event was under the theme: ” Growing for a Greener Tomorrow” which emphaised our shared of responsibility to leave future generations and their communities with a richer, better and more valuable environment and wildlife than inherited.

The event was graced by the District Coordinating Director, Chief and Traditional leaders of Dzolokpuita, District Education Director, District Police Commander, the Manager of the Forestry Service Division, Hon Assembly Members, Headmasters, School Children and staff of the Assembly.

In his speech, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Wisdom Kporngor emphasized the significance of the Green Ghana initiative as a vital step towards combating climate change impact, restore degraded landscapes and enhancing the natural beauty of the district. He noted that the initiative aligns with national efforts to restore forest cover and ensure a healthier environment for future generations. The Director applauded the community’s participation and encouraged continuous efforts in tree planting and environmental conservation.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Seth Rashid Asuo highlighted the critical role that agriculture plays in the community and how environmental sustainability directly impacts agricultural productivity. He pointed out that trees are essential for soil conservation, water retention, and providing shade, which all contribute to better crop yields. The Agric Director also shared insights on the benefits of integrating tree planting into farming practices, urging farmers to adopt agroforestry techniques to improve their livelihoods and support ecological balance. He urged residents to regularly monitor and maintain the trees planted to ensure high survival rate.

The Chief of Dzolokpuita, Togbe Debrah II expressed deep appreciation for the Green Ghana initiative, recognizing it as a pivotal movement for the community’s future. The Chief called for collective responsibility in preserving the environment, stating the cultural and economic benefits of a greener, more sustainable Dzolokpuita.

The Chief along with Heads of Department and School Children, planted symbolic trees to show the community’s commitment to the Green Ghana cause.

A variety of indigenous and exotic species which include Ofram, Mahogany, Acacia, Teak, Pawpaw, Citrus, Mango, Guave, Coconut among others were planted to enhance biodiversity.
