VOLTA REGIONAL MINISTER COMMISSIONS AMEDZOFE CANOPY WALKWAY

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Archibald Yao Letsa has commissioned the Amedzofe canopy walkway on Friday 18th November, 2022.

The Amedzofe canopy walkway is about 140m Bridge that goes across the Ote waterfall. It is a 25 minute hike from the town center to the falls and canopy walkway. When going down the walkway you will descend 259 stairs. The canopy walkway also offers you a stunning view of both the Ote waterfall and the forests that comprises the One pone Endangered Species. The Amedzofe community has numerous tourists’ attractions such as the unique weather, cave, ever green forest cover, Ote falls, German Missionary Cemetery and Mount Gemi which is the second highest mountain in Ghana.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Hon. Regional Minister revealed that the canopy walkway adventure that he had on the canopy walkway was exhilarating, breathe taking and spectacular. He therefore called on all to visit the first canopy walk in Volta Region and have the experience. He added that the canopy walk will help boost the Ecotourism as well create income to residents.

The Mankrado of Amedzofe in a speech read on behalf of Osie Akyem Foli V, the Chief of Amedzofe disclosed that the world tourism day have been adopted by the Community as a festival to be celebrated to continuously create awareness of the need to protect our environment and also raise the necessary funds to put in place essential infrastructure to promote tourism. He further stated that as part of protecting the environment, the community will embark on tree planting exercise especially along the water bodies’ whiles at the same time discouraging illegal felling of trees from the forest. He also requested that the town roads especially the one leading to the tourist sites should be constructed.

Hon. Ernest Victor Apau, the District Chief Executive of Ho West indicated that tourism comes with issues of cultural changes that can effect behaviour such as teenage pregnancy and hope the youth and residents will be educated against these challenges as well as mitigate the effects successfully.

The Regional Director of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Alexander Nketia urged management of the facility to adhere to standards and safety to ensure that tourists experience safe tour of the place.

Dr. Caleb Ofori Boateng, Founder of HERP Conservation Ghana and Member of Amedzofe Ecotourism Board called for the protection of the environment to mitigate climate change and also help conserve plant and animals species that is getting extinct.

The Regional Minister also launched the Amedzofe Tourism Festival.

The Amedzofe canopy walkway was constructed by Herp Conservation Ghana (Herp-Ghana)  with active support from District Assembly and Traditional Authorities and the community members
