NATIONAL SECURITY ENGAGES KPEDZE COMMUNITY ON SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING INITIATIVE

The National Security in collaboration with Ho West District Assembly on Friday 26th May 2023, has organized a community engagement to sensitize Kpedze Community on “See Something, Say Something ” Initiative.

In his opening address, the District Chief Executive of Ho West, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau disclosed that Kpedze community is closer to the border, therefore there is the need to engage them on security matters especially as our neighbouring countries are experiencing Terrorists attacks. He said, efforts made by government to ensure peace in the country cannot be underscored, some of which include the ” See Something, Say Something” campaign and installation of security cameras at vantage points in some part of the country to boost security.

The DCE encouraged community members to exhibit proactiveness to help government address security concerns in the Kpedze enclaves and beyond. He added that security is a shared responsibility and as well gives opportunity to everyone to participate in addressing them.

Speaking at the engagement, the Director of Counter Terrorism, Mr. Daniel Bonsu stated that the engagement with the community is to confirm government relationship with the people in improving participation and exhibiting collective efforts in tackling security matters.

He urged the community members to work closely with the government through the National Security in the district and country at large. He also encouraged everyone to partake in the ” *See Something, Say Something” campaign enable government bring interventions to address any security related concerns.

On her part, the Officer In-Charge of See Something, Say Something Campaign, Mrs Akosua Sekyere revealed that the campaign dubbed See Something, Say Something” campaign was launched by government through the National Security Ministry aimed at highlighting the awareness and vigilance of the citizenry as well as citizens participation in protecting the security of the country. She said, the initiative is not to cause fear and panic amongst each other but to encourage citizens to be proactive and security conscious in any security related matters happening in and around their community.

Mrs Selase, advised the pupils present to be conscious in the school and urged them to report any suspicious activities to their teachers. Parents and teachers were also encouraged to put the safety of their ward’s and pupils at heart and be more vigilant where ever they find themselves.

She added that as part of the campaign, citizens are urged to call toll free number 999 to alert the National Security on any suspicious activities and/or individuals in their community.

Togbe Eyrui III on behalf of residents took the opportunity to present the challenges of the community for government support. They include the construction of Kpedze Water System, upgrading and expansion of Kpedze Health Center into a Poly Clinic and rehabilitation/expansion of Kpedze Market.

Flyers containing educative messages on “See Something, Say Something” campaign were distributed to community members and pupils to broadening their knowledge and understanding about the initiative.

The Paramount Chief of Kpedze, Togbe Atsridom V expressed his appreciation to the team for enlightening the community members/Pupils on the initiative and further asked for government assistance to addressing their challenges.

Present were the Hon. DCE, District Coordinating Director, Officers from the National Security, Ghana Immigration and Police Services, the NIB Officer, Some Heads of Department/Unit, Chiefs and people of Kpedze, Hon. Assembly Members and Pupils from various Schools.
